When it comes to airport travel there aren’t many redeeming qualities. Between the always long security lines and rush of people trying to get to their respective gates, traveling — particularly around the holidays — is one of the most stressful experiences. And let’s not get started on the food — most is over-priced and usually something fast, which translates to calorie-laden.

But, according to the 2014 Airport Food Review, released this month from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the health status of popular airports is trending upward. The report shows that the ever-increasing demand for healthy options is causing more airports to revamp their selections.
“Americans are busy and airports are rising to this demand [for healthy options]: They are making it easy to fit in a workout, access healthful food, and turn delays into a productive, positive experience,” the director of nutrition education for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Susan Levin, MS, RD says in a press release.

The review looked at restaurant menus from 23 of the top 30 busiest stateside airports. So who came out on top? Baltimore/Washington International Airport secured the number one spot. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport follows and Los Angeles International Airport comes in third. Last on the list is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport — but if you’re looking to fit in a workout, the airport has one of the longest terminal walks, around 1.3 miles. And while Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is tied for 11th place, it also boasts the world’s first aeroponic airport farm.
