HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Joey Logano was the fastest of the four title contenders in the final practice before Sunday’s championship finale.
Logano will race against Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Ryan Newman at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Sprint Cup title. The championship will go to the highest finishing diver, and it will be the first title for the winner.
Harvick was eighth on the speed chart in Saturday’s second practice. His No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing entry led the field in the first practice.
Newman was 12th and Hamlin was 13th. But, in the more telling statistic of best 10 consecutive lap average, Hamlin was the third-fastest driver in the final practice.
Six-time and defending champion Jimmie Johnson was fastest in speed and 10 consecutive laps. He’s not eligible to win the title.
